I really love the background color choice: it looks absolutely fabulous with the makeup you used. The piercing eyes staring straight into the camera and the mouth open in an anticipatory and suggestive shape is very nice as well. The off-center composition works well and helps draw the eyes around the lines of the image. I appreciate the lighting work that went into this - the harsh shadows in the collar bone area frames the face without being offensive or annoying. I suppose the only thing I'd ask about this is: as a self-portrait what does it say about you? To me, it says you are directly engaging with an opinion to share. The crop tells me that you'd rather be "in your face" than "in the background." If these things are true, I'd say it's successful as a self-portrait.
I keep coming back to your gallery, Christina. Your photos have left such an imprint in my head since the first time I crossed your page. I love how you have been so successful, but what I find even more amazing (somewhat) is how once you were also not so popular. It's strange seeing this picture with such few favorites.
Honestly, I'm dying to try get pictures of myself as awesome as yours. You're so full of expression, the photos are so full of life and the pop of colour is always just right.
Despite being younger than me (by a few years), I still look up so much to you and your work. I really love it, and think about it a bit too often than I should. Thank you for being inspirational.
